MEDIA RELEASE

IT Sector hits out at NBN fraud

Outsourcing Council Asia Pacific (OCAP), a peak national industry body representing a broad based membership in the ICT sector has condemned the flawed roll out of the National Broadband Network (NBN). OCAP Chairman, Bruce Mills, said it was disgrace that the rapidly growing suburbs to the north of Brisbane had been left off the NBN rollout map and called on the Federal Government to come clean on the actual rollout strategy. The NBN fraud that has been conducted by the Federal Government on the Australian people is a disgrace and its not good enough that the Minister continues to hide behind weasel words, Mr Mills said. I call on the Minister to also come clean on reports surrounding emerging technologies that suggest the NBN project as proposed will have numerous outdated and costly shortfalls as a result. The Queensland ICT Minister has thrown his hands up and rolled over on this disgraceful sell out from the Federal Government admitting these growing areas would miss out on NBN broadband for the foreseeable future. It is not good enough. Australia is in desperate need of innovation and the chance to grasp this opportunity is being squandered by flawed plans and stuff ups surrounding the NBN. Whilst the Government continues to perpetuate this NBN fraud on the Australian people, innovation as a pillar of our economy continues to lack any real direction and leadership that our nation desperately needs, Mr Mills said.
