CIRCLE DEFINITIONS

Circumference is the distance around the circle once (perimeter): C = 2r A radius is a segment from the center to any point on the circle. A chord is a line segment that connects any two points on the circle. A diameter is a chord that passes through the center. An arc is a portion of a circle. It is expressed in degrees or radians & major or minor. VIII. Arc length is the distance along the curve of the circle. To find the arc * 2r length: 360 o IX. A sector of a circle is a fraction of the area of the circle. To find the * r 2 sector area: 360 o X. A central angle is an angle inside the circle whose vertex is the center. XI. The measure of an arc is equal to the measure of the central angle XII. An inscribed angle is an angle whose vertex is on the circle and whose sides are chords. XIII. The measure of an inscribed angle is equal to one-half of the measure of the intercepted arc.
