ABSTRACT Gas absorption is also known as scrubbing.

The absorption of gas into liquid is an important process for industrial chemical engineering. This process is utilized in industries to purify process streams or recover valuable components of the stream. Besides, removing toxic components from effluent gas streams. Gas absorption could also be defined an operation that a gas mixture is contacted with liquid for the purpose of selectively dissolving one or more components of gas mixture and to provide a solution of the gas mixture in liquid. The gas absorption main or important part is the packed bed. A packed bed is a pipe that is filled with packing materials. In this case, the Raschig ring. This experiment is conducted to determine the loading and flooding points in the column. Besides, modeling pressure drop as a function of gas (air) and liquid (water) mass velocities (m3/ hour) using flexi glass column packed with Raschig ring. Flooding depends on pressure drop across the column usually being higher at bottom than top to allow gas flow upward. Flooding happens due to gas velocity being too high causing liquid to fill the entire column causing difficulties in operation. Loading point occurs when the quantity of liquid in the packed bed increases rapidly causing liquid to accumulate in the packings. The pressure drop is determined by the difference of reading between two monotubes on the gas absorption unit. \
