November 12, 2011 To whom it may concern: I am pleased to write in support of Susan McMillin. Susan student taught in my library in the fall of 2011 during which time she demonstrated her dedication to teaching and learning. Susan is a take-charge person with strong communication and collaboration skills. She understands the need for collaboration within the department and with classroom teachers. From the moment she began her student teaching, Susan worked with all members of the library staff, learning about every aspect of the library including, cataloging materials, maintaining audio-visual equipment, supervising students, and scheduling facilities. She also made it a priority to meet with classroom teachers while planning information literacy lessons. Susan is a competent, knowledgeable teacher-librarian. She instructed lessons in various curricular areas with students of all abilities. Susan facilitated book talks for academic reading English classes, instructed internet safety lessons for all freshmen, and guided research units for Social Studies and Journalism classes. In addition to these typical library lessons, Susan took on the task of organizing an author visit for our school. Susans strong work ethic and ability to work with a deadline made this event extremely successful. I highly recommend Susan for employment as a teacher-librarian.
