If you are looking to upgrade your firearm
with a red dot sight or other optic, you might
come across the name C&H Precision. But
who exactly are they, and what do they
offer?
C&H Precision is a family-owned business
based in Richmond Hill, Georgia. They
specialize in adapter plates. These are
precision-machined metal plates that allow
you to mount a red dot sight or other optic
onto a firearm that was not originally
designed for it.
C&H Precision caters especially to the
"optics-ready" trend in firearms. Many
modern handguns come pre-cut for red dot
sights, but not all use the same mounting
footprint. C&H Precision's adapter plates
bridge the gap between these different
footprints and the red dot sight you want to
use. And if your slide is not ready to accept a
red dot sight, no worries, they mill slides too.
2024
C&H Precision exemplifies the American
spirit of entrepreneurship. Their rise to
prominence is a story of hard work and
innovation. Having established themselves
as leaders in the production of firearm optic
mounting plates, they strategically
expanded their product line in 2023 to
include red dot sights. This strategic move
solidified their position as a one-stop shop
for firearm enthusiasts. Customers can now
rely on C&H Precision for everything they
need to equip their firearm with a red dot
sight, from slide milling services to
compatible mounting plates and the sight
itself.
At the 2024 Shot Show, in Las Vegas, C&H
precision unveiled their entire rifle optic line
including the ERD-1, the subject of my review.
Robustness and durability are clear features
of the C&H Precision ERD-1. It’s engineered
with a heavy-duty Picatinny rail mount to
withstand recoil across a wide range of
calibers. A rock solid mount is essential to
overall accuracy and the ERD-1’s Picatinny
mount can take the beating of a 12 gauge gas
operated shotgun all day long.

For this review my range sessions were with

a Mossberg 930. Shotguns are ideal
platforms for red dot sights and the ERD-1
was right at home on the Mossberg.

In addition to its excellent performance the

C&H ERD-1 offers every feature anyone
could want. I’ll start with its multiple reticles:
circle dot, dot and circle only. Circle dot gives
you a 2 MOA center dot in a 56 MOA circle.
All reticle selections were sharp and clear
making target acquisition and engagement

To extend battery life, the ERD-1 features
motion detection. C&H Precision indicates a
five minute motionless timeout, but I was
not able to duplicate that in my two
measurements.
The ERD-1 is powered by a CR2032 battery
delivering 50,000 hours of run time at mid-
level illumination. Battery installation does
not require removing the sight, the battery
compartment is accessible on the right side
of the sight body.
The C&H Precision ERD-1 is built tough, using
aircraft-grade aluminum. This translates to a
weight of 13 ounces (368 grams), which
some might find hefty. While it won't be
everyone's cup of tea, especially for those
who prioritize lightweight rifles for long
carries, the added mass can improve
accuracy.
