High concept: The Weird Adventures of H.P.

Lovecraft is a survival horror game that takes a player through the realms of the 1920s pulp fiction writer H.P. Lovecrafts Cthulhu Mythos. The player takes on the role of the writer H.P. Lovecraft as he experiences one of his night terrors that spawned many of the stories associated with the mythos. The player will have to use exploration and skill to traverse through the mythos and wake from his terror. Narrative Backstory: The backstory for the level is that the player is submerged into a night terror and wakes up in a room not dissimilar to any standard bedroom in the house. When they exit the room though the rest of the house is missing and they stand over a chasm with only a narrow bridge to guide them across. As the player is crossing the dimly lit bridge they see a small torch light on the other side. This is Randolph Carter an archeologist who has been stranded on this strange place for the last few days after a ship wreck. He tosses a flashlight to the player. Once the player has crossed the bridge Randolph Carter explains that they are trapped in the Ancient City of Rlyeh and that everything he knew about the cosmos is about to change. Rlyeh is an evil nightmare of a city built of large cyclopean masonry and constructed of the weird angles that are unconstrained to this dimension and therefore can only express themselves as non-Euclidean in nature. Randolph Carter guides the player through a few areas and shows him what he must do to progress the game solving puzzles and aligning stars to access new world portals. Reference Images:
