Jamaica is an island country that is situated in Carribean Sea. The closest countries are Haiti and Dominican Republic. Jamaica was given an independence from the United Kingdom in 1962, but it still remains a Commonwealth realm with Queen Elizabeth II as a head of state. Jamaica has a mixed economy. Services make up 60% of country's GDP. Major economic sectors are agriculture, mining, manufacturing, tourism, and nancial and insurance services. The country continues to derive most of its foreign exchange from tourism, remittances, and bauxite/alumina. High unemployment exacerbates the crime problem, including gang violence that is fueled by the drug trade.
