Established in the year 1961. As of 31 December 2010, the Taiwan Stock Exchange had 758 listed companies with a combined market capitalization of TWD 23,811,416 million. The current chairman of the TSEC is Mr. Chi Schive, the President is Samuel J.S. Hsu

Reforms

Streamline Securities Borrowing and Lending The total shares sold under both the SBL and the Margin Trading System should not exceed 25 per cent of the securities issued and outstanding; Securities sold under the SBL on an accumulated basis should not exceed 10 per cent of the outstanding shares of a particular company. Extend Settlement Deadline

Where there is a foreign investor involved and in certain given circumstances the settlement deadline may be extended to 6pm of the third business day following the date of the transaction. The broker may charge the investor for the performance of such a service.

Simplify Registration of Foreign Investors After a custodian unit registers online with the TSEC, the Stock Exchange will immediately issue a Certificate of Registration Completion. Any documents required by the TSEC for reference purposes can be sent later. It is not required to submit additional documents concerning hedging purpose. Any changes to a registration may be done online, without the need to provide further documents.
