SHEET PILE WALL

Advantages of Sheet ||e Wa||

1. Light weight
2. Can be reused on several projects.
3. Easy to adapt the pile length by either welding or bolting Long service liIe
above or below water with modest protection.
4.
5. Joints are less apt to deIorm during driving. Provides high resistance to
driving stresses
D|sadvantages of a Sheet ||e Wa||
1. Sheet pile driving may cause neighborhood distrurbace
2. Excavation shapes are dictated by the sheet pile section and interlocking
elements.
3. Installation oI sheet piles is diIIicult in soils with boulders or cobbles. In such
cases, the desired wall depths may not be reached.
4. Sections can rarely be used as part oI the permanent structure.
5. Settlements in adjacent properties may take place due to installation
vibrations
Soldier Pile Wall System

Advantages of a Soldier Pile
1. .Flexible enough to Iit around existing utilities
2 Inexpensive and easy to build

Disadvantages of a Soldier Pile
1. Poor backIilling and associated ground losses can result in signiIicant surIace
settlements. .
2. Cannot be used in high water table conditions without extensive dewatering.
3. They are primarily limited to temporary construction
4. They are not as stiII as other retaining systems.
5. Because only the Ilange oI a soldier pile is embedded beneath subgrade, it is
very diIIicult to control basal soil movements.

SLURRY PILE WALL SYSTEM

Advantages of S|urry Wa||
1. Provides underpinning
2. Proven technology
3. Provides strong and watertight wall
4. Minimizes settlement oI adjacent buildings

Disadvantages of Slurry Wall

1. #equires special equipment
2. Utility impacts
3. High cost
