Counseling Specialist Student Support Services The University of Iowa Center for Diversity & Enrichment is seeking a qualified

candidate for a Counseling Specialist for the Trio Student Support Services program. The Counseling Specialist will contribute to strategic retention and graduation goals of the University for TRIO SSS students by creating and implementing programs and services that foster a sense of community, student engagement and support students by counseling and providing academic, personal and social support services to eligible students; marketing TRIO services; developing programs and serving as a resource; other duties as assigned. Education: A bachelors degree or an equivalent combination of education and related experience is required. A Masters degree in student development or higher education is preferred. Required Qualifications: Reasonable experience (1-3 years) providing academic support in a post-secondary educational setting to first-generation, low-income, students with disabilities, or U.S. ethnic minority students. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Possess a valid motor vehicle drivers license and meet the University Fleet Safety Program requirements (University of Iowa Operations Manual Part V, Chapter 19). Desirable Qualifications: Experience in counseling or advising college/university students from diverse U.S. ethnic backgrounds. Experience in programming, tutoring or classroom teaching at the university level. Experience using technology for preparing presentations, recording student contact notes, and managing a case list of students. Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
