Heaccidentallydiscoveredthestoptrick,orsubstitution,in1896,andwasoneofthefirstfilmmakerstousemultipleexposures/time lapsephotography,dissolves,andhandpaintedcolorinhisfilms.Becauseofhisabilitytoseeminglymanipulateandtransformreality throughcinematography,MlisissometimesreferredtoastheFirst"Cinemagician. Stereoscopic:Referstoatechniqueforcreatingorenhancingtheillusionofdepthinanimagebypresentingtwooffsetimages separatelytotheleftandrighteyeoftheviewer.Bothofthese2Doffsetimagesarethencombinedinthebraintogivetheperception of3Ddepth.Threestrategieshavebeenusedtoaccomplishthis:havetheviewerweareyeglassestocombineseparateimagesfrom twooffsetsources,havetheviewerweareyeglassestofilteroffsetimagesfromasinglesourceseparatedtoeacheye,orhavethelight sourcesplittheimagesdirectionallyintotheviewer'seyes. Anamorphic:FilmdistortiontechniquesusedbyWilliamKentridge.Ananamorphicimageisonethatcanonlybeinterpretedwhen viewedfromaparticularangleorthroughatransformingopticaldevicelikeamirror.Thewordanamorphicanditsderivativesstem fromtheGreekwordsmeaningformedagain,duetoreshapingtheimageontothefilmorrecordingmedia.
