Teacher Jorge Ariza Caballero taught a lesson on verb to be and physical appearances to 27 fifth grade students. The lesson included organizing students into groups to complete a worksheet puzzle, asking questions about characteristics and demonstrating answers on the board, explaining how to write pronouns and verb to be, having students copy an exercise on the board filling in verb to be forms, calling on individual students to complete parts of the exercise, and concluding with a listening activity practicing pronunciation and intonation of related sentences. The observer noted the students' behavior was appropriate and some demonstrated good listening abilities, and that the teacher prepared a meaningful, non-traditional English class using varied activities.
