Minneapolis Public Schools names new chief information officer

MINNEAPOLIS Superintendent Bernadeia Johnson on December 16 announced the selection of David Mayor as chief information officer for Minneapolis Public Schools effective January 1, 2012. The chief information officer provides vision and leadership in the development and implementation of information technology and ensures that technology, information and data are planned, implemented and maintained to support and enhance business operations and student instruction. David is a highly effective leader with experience in strategic and tactical planning, information technology management and business strategy development, said Johnson. He demonstrates the proven ability to align systems with strategic goals to achieve results. Since 2008, Mayor has been employed as chief information officer for the city of Rochester, NY, where he led efforts in areas such as strategic and tactical IT planning, website and systems development for internal and external audiences and technical infrastructure transformation. Prior to that, he founded Mayor Associates, a management consulting business specializing in strategic planning and business process re-engineering, and worked there from 1994-2001 and 2005-2008. Mayor also was employed by Celltech Group as SAP/ERP program director from 2003 to 2005 and senior manager of strategic planning and project management from 2001 to 2003, as well as by Mobil Chemical as North American integrated logics systems manager from 1991 to 1994 and information technology manager from 1986-1991. He began his career as an information systems coordinator for the Simcoe County school board. Mayor received his degree in computer science and data processing from DeVry Institute of Technology in Toronto, Canada. He received his Certified Management Accounting (CMA) credentials through the Society of Management Accountants, Canada. Of his new position, Mayor said, I am eager to lead Minneapolis Public Schools efforts to leverage technology to enhance learning and address the digital divide so that our students gain the skills necessary to excel in a global community. I look forward to guiding our innovative work and bringing best practices into the 21st century classroom. ###
