Physical Barriers
Sometimes , the listeners may not be able to understand the message due to a lot of noise in the surrounding.
Ex:-construction work, a
gala party or a religious meeting going on nearby could also induce a loud noise
Attitudinal
Barriers
The lack of confidence or a sense of superiority or inferiority complex may also prevent proper involvement in the speech task. These complexes affect the sense, interpretation and evaluation of the message.
Physiological Barriers
some people may have genuine hearing problems or deficiencies that prevent them from listening properly.
Wrong Assumptions
Misreading or over reading the body language can altogether devastate the true essence of the message. Looks, clothes, regional accents, speech defects or unusual mannerisms can easily distract the listeners. Instead of listening to whatever the speakers delivers, what all the audience do is merely hear
Gender Barriers
Studies have revealed that
men and women listen very differently and for different purposes.
Women are more likely to
listen for the emotion behind a speakers words, when men listen more for the facts and the content.
Cultural Barriers :
Accents can be barriers to listening, since they interfere with the ability to understand the meaning of words that are pronounced differently. The problem of different accents arises not only between cultures, but also within a culture.
