Energy use per person in 15 highly populated countries in 2005


Energy such as electricity can come from many sources, including coal, oil, wood, and solar power. The following table shows how much coal it would take to make all the energy that people use in different countries.

Energy use Model answer This is a table which shows us the amount of coal it would take to meet the energy needs of fifteen selected countries. The figures mentioned are in kilograms. The countries with the highest requirements are the USA, Germany, the UK, Russia and France. Of these the USA has by far the highest needs with 11,485 kilograms. This is twice as high as the other countries in this group. The next group of five countries has energy needs ranging from 3,839 kg in Japan to 646 in Brazil. In the last group Turkey is at the top with 628 kg. Egypt, the Philippines and Thailand have similar requirements ranging from 322 down to 33. The table shows that the energy requirements of the USA are much higher than any of the other 14 countries. The energy needed for the top group is higher than the other two groups combined.
