Vasil Hrodnikau, freelance journalist of the independent newspaper Narodnaya Volia, was found dead in his house in Zaslauye

in October 2005. There was blood on his head and blood spots on walls and a broken stool. The forensic examination stated that he died from a traumatic brain injury as a result of "contact with a blunt object". However, the prosecutors office refused to open a criminal case claiming the death was non-violent. The relatives and colleagues of the victim doubt the official statement. They suppose that the death was connected with his journalist work on some articles connected with negative highlight of the KGB and the Ministry of Home Affairs. The journalists who visited his house after the murder said there were too many spots of blood in different rooms of the building. It created an impression that some other people had been in the house and it should have led to opening a criminal case.

Aleh Byabenin, founder and director of www.charter97.org, died in suspicious circumstances. On September 3, 2010 he was found hanged in his country house in Piarhurava village, Dziarzhynsk district, in Minsk region. He didnt leave any note before his death. The authorities claimed immediately that an autopsy revealed that Byabenin had committed suicide. The forensic examination was prolonged several times, but finally the official statement concluded suicide. The OCSE experts confirmed the statement, but underlined that they were not authorized to conduct their own investigation and they considered only the materials provided by the police investigation. There was no exhumation of his body. In the meantime, many of his friend and colleagues disagree with the official statement. Those who saw the dead body claim there were signs of violence. Journalists emphasize the fact that that Biabenin took part in the pre-election campaign of Andrey Sannikau, leader of the public campaign European Belarus, the main opponent of Lukashenka, who was later severely persecuted. Some of the journalists who voiced their doubts about the official statement received threats.
Aleh biabenin was born in 1974. he graduated fromm Belarusian State university, journalism faculty. In 1990s he worked as a deputy editor of the newspaper Imia (Name). In 1998 he became the founder and director of the website charter97.org. He became BAJ member in 1998. He was married and had two sons.
