The Monad Mathematical intelligence begins to reveal itself in this arrangement of numbers (the Luo Shu format) that

begins with the number ONE, or the Monad, to the Pythagoreans. The ONE is the creator of all things including the Luo Shu and all subsequent magic squares in the Luo Shu format. The ONE, the Monad, the LOGOS: the spirit of the universe, cosmic ideology, the point or Circle of the Heavens from which follows the system of numerals. The Monad is not considered a number because it is indivisible, cannot be defined and represents Unity. Three is considered to be the first counting number to be born from the merger of one and two and three is the first male number, suggesting procreation mythologies.22
