Emitter Bias

Emitter Bias
For efficient amplifier design a stable Q-point is essential which is immune to variations in current gain Emitter Bias Design: Q-point does not shift on load line even when current gain changes from 50 to 150 DC = 50
VE = 5V 0.7V = 4.3V IE = 4.3V / 2.2 K = 1.95 mA IC IE = 1.95 mA VC = VCC - ICRC = 13.1V VCE = VC - VE = 8.8V IB = IC / DC = 1.95 mA/50 = 39 A

Q-point:
IC =1.95 mA VCE = 8.8V

Emitter Bias
DC = 100
VE = 5V 0.7V = 4.3V IE = 4.3V / 2.2 K = 1.95 mA IC IE = 1.95 mA VC = VCC - ICRC = 13.1V VCE = VC - VE = 8.8V IB = IC / DC = 1.95 mA/100 = 19.5 A

Q-point:
IC =1.95 mA VCE = 8.8V

Emitter Bias
DC = 150
VE = 5V 0.7V = 4.3V IE = 4.3V / 2.2 K = 1.95 mA IC IE = 1.95 mA VC = VCC - ICRC = 13.1V VCE = VC - VE = 8.8V IB = IC / DC = 1.95 mA/150 = 13 A
IC =1.95 mA VCE = 8.8V

Q-point:

Collector current is now determined by a fixed emitter current, and is no longer dependent on base current or on DC A fixed emitter current keeps the collector current fixed and Q-point remains stable

Emitter Bias
Small change in collector current because of changes in current gain
IE = I C + I B IE = IC + IC/ DC IC = DC IE / (DC +1)

If DC = 100
DC / (DC +1)= 0.99

So ; IC = 0.99 IE IC = 99 % 0f IE
