    THE MELBOURNE CUP

    The cup, which is the main event of the 5-6 week spring racing carnival first began in 1861. It is now held on the first Tuesday in Novemember at 3pm.

    The cup takes place in spring, which is the one of the best times in Melbourne

    Every year Victorians get the Tuesday off work and it is a state holiday, Because we only get the Tuesday off, many Australians chuck a sickie so they can Travel.

    Born in New Zealand in 1926 Died in Melbourne 1932 Won the Melbourne cup in Won over 20 other important races His final race was in Tijuana Mexico. After returning from Mexico, Phar lap Died mysteriously from an overdose Of arsenic. Many people suspect criminals were Involed because criminals had tried to Kill Pharlap in the past. Phar lap remains the most famous Horse in Australian history. His heart and body are kept in museums In Melbourne
