River Ravi, the Heritage of Pakistan In the recent past years, River Ravi has become one of the

polluted rivers in the world. River Ravi, which was known as a Holy river and was known to support life and livelihoods of thousands of people and was a source of happiness to million of people who were totally dependent on the fish present in this river. Now it just shows only signs of devastation and annihilation. After Indus Water treaty, Indian Government started making damns on Ravi and the water passing through it was almost completely stopped by the Indian Government. As a result of these damns, the Ravi has almost become a river of death. This river was believed to play central role in the local culture, mythology and traditions in the past. All the waste water, industrial and agricultural wastage is constantly being deposited to this River from both India and Pakistan through Hodeida dam. This polluted water is now gradually taking its ways in human food chains and is also affecting the children who swim and play in the river. They usually get skin lesions, boils, rashes and various infections through this toxic water. Normally, people passing through this river throw garbage in it without realizing that they are destroying this natural inhabitant of Pakistan. It is entirely our fault that we have not taken care of this river, and now it is becoming dangerous and injurious to our lives. Our Government should an eye on the current situation of Ravi and try to find some other ways for the disposal of industrial waste. They should make departments for the rehabilitation of the water. People should also work along with government so that we can make it as a river again on the map of Pakistan. We should encourage places near Ravi for outing so that the income generated from these places can be used by the government for the betterment of Ravi and other purposes.
