Call for Papers

Special Issue on Sustainability in Sport & Tourism Deadline for Submission: 1 August 2008 Purpose of this Special Issue Although there has been much rhetoric over the last decade regarding the need for sustainability, the fundamental importance of the issue has really only come to the fore over the last couple of years, in line with the prominence given to the problems of climate change. Whilst much of the discussion regarding sustainability relates only to the environmental dimension, true sustainability also includes both the social and economic dimensions under the umbrella of what is commonly termed triple bottom line sustainability. There is now wide recognition of the importance that sport & tourism plays in the global economy in terms of economic and social contributions as well as its potential for growth. As such, it is crucial that the two-way relationship between sport & tourism and sustainability is understood. Whilst it is important from an ethical perspective to understand the impact that sport & tourism has on the external environment so that these impacts can be more effectively managed, it is also important that the impact of changes in the external environment on the sustainability of sport & tourism is understood in order to ensure the long-term viability of the sector. This special issue seeks high-quality papers that address any of themany complex issues raised above. Papers can be conceptual or practical in focus but should make a clear contribution to the relationship between triple bottom line sustainability and sport & tourism.
