Fermentation 4 Dummies

Yeast + Sugar + Liquid = Alcohol + CO2

Seriously, thats it
Can control fermentation

Yeast + Cold = Dead Yeast

Rinse and sanitize equipment before use Airlock

bottom off of a milk jug

Funnel
Cut

hole in bottom of Styrofoam cup Use top of milk jug with handle

Apple Cider

Apple Juice with no preservatives (sorbates esp.) Yeast Starter


Put

yeast in 2 quarts juice Refrigerate once bubbling


Mix 2 quarts juice with 1lb brown sugar Mix yeast starter with juice and sugar Put airlock on jug, wait 10-14 days

Orange Wine

Slice and soak 6 oranges for 24-48 hours


Cut

into 8ths Soak in large bowl


Cover

with cling wrap

Crush oranges and drain into jug


Should

be ~ gallon

Add 2 lb powdered sugar Heat orange water in microwave (~5 minutes) Add yeast and 2 quarts orange juice

Orange Wine

After 5 days, run wine through sieve to remove pulp Top off with sugar Wait 5-9 days to finish fermenting

Ingredients - Cider

1 Gallon Motts Apple Juice 1 packet bread yeast 1 lb brown sugar Makes 1 gallon

Ingredients Orange Wine

2 Quarts Tropicana Orange Juice 2 lb powdered sugar


Could

be granulated or raw

6 oranges ~ gallon water 1 packet bakers yeast Makes 1 gallon
