The Impact of the Supreme Court's Decision on Redevelopment
Redevelopment Committee Chairman Speaks Out
SAN DIEGO, CA (December 28, 2011) San Diego City Councilmember Todd Gloria, Chair of
the Ad Hoc Committee on Redevelopment, released a statement about the California Supreme
Court decision on the legality of the state legislature's elimination of redevelopment, which is
expected to be announced tomorrow.
"The Supreme Court's decision could have tremendous impact on San Diego, said
Councilmember Todd Gloria, Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on Redevelopment.
"Redevelopment is one of our best tools to build infrastructure and affordable housing,
eliminate blight, and improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods. I am hopeful that the Court
will reject this shortsighted attempt by Sacramento to kill this successful program that creates
jobs and stimulates the economy, and listen to the voters who have demanded the state stop
balancing its budget by raiding local funds.
Councilmember Gloria welcomes the opportunity to discuss this critical decision and its local
impacts via telephone on Thursday, December 29 or in person on Friday, December 30. To
schedule an interview, please contact Katie Keach, 858-245-7673.
