New Accessible Taxi Tax Credit Will Help Get Accessible Cabs on the Road
Governor Cuomo signs Kellner bill that provides a tax credit for accessible vehicles Albany, NY Today, Governor Cuomo signed a piece of legislation into law (A.966B/S.4813) which provides a $10,000 tax credit for taxi and livery companies that upgrade or purchase vehicles that are accessible for people with disabilities. Following the signing, Assembly Member Micah Z. Kellner (D-Upper East Side, Yorkville and Roosevelt Island), the bills sponsor and the Assemblys leading disability rights advocate, released the following statement: I applaud Governor Cuomo for signing this important piece of legislation into law. In doing so, he has once again proven himself to be an advocate for New Yorkers with disabilities. Until now, taxi and livery owners have had few incentives to outfit their fleets with accessible vehicles. This tax credit, along with the $15,000 grants the city is required to provide under last weeks taxi and livery agreement, will take away the financial excuse the industry has been using for not purchasing accessible vehicles. The fight for accessibility in New York Citys taxi and livery fleets is far from over. When the Legislature reconvenes in January, I will continue to work with Governor Cuomo to find innovative ways to ensure that all New Yorkers, including those with disabilities, have the ability to hail a cab. ###
