BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN DEMAND AND SUPPLY IN ANDHRA PRADESH BY USING RENEWABLE ENERGY POTENTIAL AVAILABLE

PROJECT GUIDE: R.NATARAJAN SIR

NAME: P.SAI ASHOK KUMAR(08BEM029) K.PHANEENDHRA SAI(08BEM019)

ENERGY SCENARIO
APGENCO is the leading power generation company of Andhra Pradesh with installed capacity of 8924.9MU,of which 5093MU is thermal and 3829.4MU is hydro. APGENCO contributes about 57% of the total power generated in the state. As on 02/01/2012 the power generated is thermal-103.8MU,hydel-6.41MU.

Other companies that contribute to the power generation are GMR energy, LANCO, GVK, SIMHADRI SUPER THERMAL POWER PROJECT(by NTPC)

The main fuels used in generation of power in the state are Coal, natural gas, hydro. The gap between power demand and supply has widened to 50 million units (MU) per day with the demand touching a peak of 275 MU because of continued dry spell in the state. To fill this gap the government is turning towards the renewable sources like solar energy ,wind energy, bio-mass etc...

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT IS

To find the solar energy, wind energy and bio-mass energy potential of the state. To conserve energy in rural areas. To electrify villages for basic and irrigation purposes. To bridge the energy gap using the new and renewable sources available. To study the state policies in implementing the project. To study the current renewable energy projects in the state.
