Tuning the Guitar part1

2012 by P.A. Bright, for Parlequin Productions Inc.

Standard Tuning

Tuning the Guitar part 2 Diagram 1. Lightly lay a finger on the low E string at the 12th fret and then immediately pick the string and lift your finger up at the same time. It will take some practice to learn how to make the muted harmonic resonance, rather than a clearly picked string; just realize the goal is to lightly mute the string rather than holding it firmly against the fret board. Repeat this immediately with the A string at the 7th fret. (Muting the E string at the XII fret position makes the A note.) Listen to the notes, they should sound the same. The two tones will oscillate together and tell you whether the two notes are in sync or discordant.

Harmonic Tuning
Diagram 2 Now lightly lay a finger on the A string at the 12th fret position, immediately pick the string, and lift your finger up at the same time. Repeat this immediately with the D string at the 7th fret. Listen to the notes, they should sound the same. Adjust the D string until its harmonic is in sync with the harmonic on the A string.

Repeat this
immediately with the B string at the 7th fret. Listen to the notes. They should sound the same. Diagram 5 Finally, lightly lay a finger on the E string at the 12th fret position , immediately pick the string, and lift your finger up at the same time.

Repeat this
immediately with the A string at the 12th fret. Listen to the notes, they should now sound the same. Diagram 3 Diagram 5
