2008 SEASON 11 YEAR OLD CAVALIERS

This season we want to continue building on the Christ-focused leadership and prepare each child for individual excellence. We want to be fully prepared to deliver a consistent message of technique, purpose, and competitiveness so the most fulfilling experience can be imparted to each player. To do this, organization is the key element. Each practice, each repetition, each situation should be fully anticipated and planned for. The thrust of the schedule will take place in the first few weeks of camp, where we will indoctrinate the team members on the tempo and format expected for the season. Our primarily objective in the first two weeks is to prepare for the first intrasquad scrimmage. This scrimmage will serve as live-fire training prior to our first meaningful competition. Each play will be scripted and reviewed on its effectiveness to build our arsenal against our first opponents and limit our weaknesses. During practices, we want to make sure the kids are always moving and are always engaged in learning and competing. We will use high-tempo drills and games to make sure each player gets as much training as possible and that their technique improves from week to week for better performance. We want to develop excellent fundamentals such as blocking, tackling, running, and catching, so that the player is confident in his ability as a complete football player by the end of the season. We expect this physical maturity to manifest itself in emotional and social maturity, while cultivating a more meaningful relationship with Christ. I have made a DVD that illustrates all the drills and concepts outlined in the following practice plans. You can take a look at this stuff at your leisure, but it will give you a way to familiarize yourself with some of the things we are looking to accomplish within the drills and games. Ask as many questions as you like, and I hope to go over this stuff with you before June, when we can run through some of these concepts
