Nilambur is renowned for the oldest teak plantation in the world, the Conolly's Plot, which is just 10 km away

from Chungathara. The place is also famous for its tribal settlements, the world's first Teak Museum, vast rain forests, waterfalls and ancient residences of maharajas. The area forms a valley surrounded by hills. On the western side is the Waynad forest, the eastern side touches the Silent Valley National Park and on the northern side lies the Mukkuruthi Wild Life Sanctuary and Muthumulai Forest Area. All these offer vast opportunity for the development of ecotourism. Ecotourism is increasing in popularity in these areas, and has significant practical value on the growth of tourism industry.
