MORAVIA - Arbon R. 'Arbie' Hatfield, 84, of Moravia, passed away Saturday, Jan.

14, 2012, in Auburn Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Arbie was born in Moravia on July 9, 1927, a son of the late Alfred and Iva Ross Hatfield. He was a graduate of Moravia High School and had operated a dairy farm and trucking business in Moravia for many years. Arbie was married to Martha Nemec for 56 years, who predeceased him in February 2006. Arbie was involved in his community as a member and past master of Sylvan Lodge #41 F & AM; member and past master of the Moravia Grange; member, trustee and usher at Christ United Methodist Church of Locke and Moravia; served 10 years as chairman of Cayuga County ASC Committee; member of the town of Moravia Board of Assessment Review and as town of Moravia supervisor and member of the Cayuga County Board of Supervisors, which became the Cayuga County Legislature, of which he was chairman for seven of the 22 years he served. Arbie was a caring man who always had a quick wit, joyful attitude and friendly joke. He loved his community and the people in it, but mostly he loved his extended family and grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Don (Shannon Bell) Hatfield, Gary (Faye) Hatfield, Jay (Barb Stanton) Hatfield and Christine (John) Cutting; a brother, Wendell Hatfield; a sister, Gina Morrill; a very special friend, Dorothy Foster, of Owasco; 14 grandchildren, Mary, Jacqueline, Suzanne, Matthew, Brad, Samantha, Tiffany, Aaron, Nathan, Lesley, Ian, Emily, Erica and Jared; and 10 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday Jan. 19, 2012, at Christ United Methodist Church, 36 Church St., Moravia, with the Rev. David Hays officiating. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Moravia. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Wade Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Moravia. Memorial contributions are requested for Christ United Methodist Church or Four Town First Aid Squad.
