2nd Grade Geometry Terms

 Figures are congruent when they are the exact same size and the exact same shape.
Example of congruent figures:

These 3 triangles are congruent because they are the exact same size and shape.

Example of figures that are NOT congruent:

These 2 figures are NOT congruent because they are not the same size or the same shape.

 A line of symmetry is a line that divides a shape so that each part is a mirror image of the other.

Example(s):

Example of a figure that does not have a line of symmetry

This shape does NOT have a line of symmetry because the two parts are not mirror images of each other.
