7 Bokken Suburi as preserved by Morihiro Saito Sensei,9th Dan, Shihan.

1.

Ichi no Suburi The sword is raised above the head and the hips are
turned to the right until square, there is no step back.

2.

Ni no Suburi The sword is raised above the head at the same time the
right leg steps back and the hips turned into Hanmi posture.

3.

San no Suburi As number 2 but the sword is lowered to waist height


and then raised above the head whilst stepping forward and cutting to finish at waist height.

4.

Yon no Suburi As number 1 but there is a continuous cutting whilst


stepping with left and right feet simultaneously as in walking. Each step is followed by a cut to waist height and a turn in the hips. The sequence is 3:3:1

5.

Go no Suburi As number 4, but the bokken performs shomen by


turning the sword rearward over each shoulder, again the sequence is 3:3:1

6.

Roku no Suburi Beginning with number 2, the sword then cuts with a
step forward and then thrusts with the leading leg, This is repeated on the opposite side for 3:3:1

7.

Shichi no Suburi As number 7, except the thrust is from the opposite


leg with a step forward. This is repeated for 3:3:1
