ACI1996Standardprovidesguidelinesonpage550R6,Section8.1,fortheminimumend bearingofsimplysupportedhollowcoreslabs.BelowisabriefsummaryoftheACIStandard. Thisinformationshouldonlybeusedasaguidelinefortheassociatedtoppingworkin conjunctionwithaprecastplankstructure.Pleaseconsulttheaforementionedsectionofthe ACIStandardforacompletedescriptionofthiswork. ACISection8.1.1 Thebearingstressatthecontactsurfacebetweensupportedandsupportingmembers shouldnotexceedthedesignbearingstrengthforeithersurfaceandthebearing element.ConcretebearingstrengthshouldbeasgiveninACI318. ACISection8.1.2 Thedistancetotheedgeofthesupporttotheendoftheprecastmemberinthe directionofthespanisasleastl/180,butnotlessthan2inchesforsolidorhollowcore slabs. ACISection8.1.3 Bearingpadsatunarmorededgesshallbesetbackaminimumofinch(oratleastthe chamferdimensionatchamferededges).Thisalsoappliestotheedgeofthehollow coreplankaswell. ExampleAsimplysupportedhollowcoreslabis200inlength.Theslabistobearona trowelfinishedconcretefoundationledge. CalculateBearingTheslabis240long,sol/180isequaltoapproximately1inches.
