The different characteristics of the various materials used for making concrete requires different methods of handling and storage system used basically depends upon the raw materials to the plant site as well as the quantum of storage required.

Types of plants
There are two basic ways of storing aggregates giving rise to two major types of plants.
y Vertical production plant y Horizontal production plant

Vertical Production Plant

In the vertical production plant ,the aggregates stored in one or more silos located above the batching and mixing section and are delivered by gravity to the concrete mixer. Such plants are not designed for relocation at short notice since the aggregates are stored in silos they are well protected against extreme temperature

Horizontal Production Plant

In horizontal production plant the aggregates are in
 A star pattern  Tall silos or pocket silos  In-line bins
