Civil Partnerships
Civil Partnerships in the UK give same-sex couples rights and responsibilities identical to civil marriage. A civil marriage is when a couple gets married outside the Church. A couple in a civil partnership has the same rights to tax (e.g. inheritance tax) and other similar rights that a legally married couple would have. In order to form a civil partnership a couple must first give notice of their plans. This involves letting a registration office know about your intention to register a civil partnership. Once they have done that, notices are publicized by the registration authority for a period of 15 days, similar to marriage notices. A civil partnership can be formed in England and Wales at register offices or other approved locations. A couple could get a list of approved places from their local register office.
