What we are learning In Reading- We begin the fourth book in our reading series this week. The story is called A Bed Full of Cats. In phonics, we are studying the long sound of e in short words as well as in the vowel combination of ea. We will also work on alphabetizing. In Writing-We are working on writing for different reasons. This past week we had the opportunity to write thank you letters to the people who hosted our field trip to Tioga Town Center. In Math-We are moving into unit 5, Subtraction Strategies to 12. In Social Studies-We will work on the character quality of caring for the month of February.

Our Calendar
*Tues., Feb. 14-Valentines Day! We will have a low key celebration in which we will exchange cards. Keep in mind that our focus is friendship, not romantic love. Please help your child decorate a shoebox to be used to collect Valentines. If you need help with materials, let me know. *Mon., Feb. 20-No school! Presidents Day
We have begun a new behavior plan in the classroom. A weekly beehavior chart will come home each Friday. Please acknowledge and reward your childs appropriate behavior. Thanks.

Many Thanks! *Thank you to all the family members who baked goodies and ran the bake sale last week. YOU ARE AWESOME! We earned $155.05 which is plenty to adopt a manatee as well as defray the cost of going to Homosassa Springs. I will let you know the details as soon as they come in. *Many thanks to the Deadericks and to Blue Highway Frank for hosting this weeks field trip. An additional thanks go out to the parents and grandparents who chaperoned. The kids had a great time! *Thank you, Courtney Forster, for sending in gallon Ziploc bags and Lysol spray.
