The Demographic Transition Model (DTM)

Crude Birth Rate: The number of live births per 1000 of the population per year. Crude Death Rate: The number of deaths per 1000 people per year. Fertility Rate: The average number of children a woman will have. Infant mortality Rate: The number of children out of every 1000 born alive that will before they reach the age of 1. Life Expectancy: The average number of years a person can expect to live. Migration Rate: The difference between the number of immigrants and emigrants per 100 (or 100,000) of the population per year.

Most MEDCs are currently in stages 4-5, whereas most LEDCs are still in 2-3.

The DTM shows population change over time as a country develops.

Population Density: The average number of people wholive in 1km2.
