    November 8, 2011 The National Architectural Accrediting Board, Inc.

    (NAAB) is conducting a study to collect critical information on the needs and expectations of accredited architecture education. The insights of educators, architects, interns and students are an essential component of this study, and will help guide the NAABs decision-making process during the next review of the Conditions, beginning in late 2012. The NAAB encourages everyone invited to take the survey to complete it. This study is being conducted with the full knowledge and support of the other associations representing the architecture field, including the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), The American Institute of Architects (AIA), American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). Approximately 25,000 individuals from The AIA, AIAS, ACSA, and NCARB were invited to participate in an electronic survey regarding these topics. The survey opened today and should take about 20 minutes to complete. It is scheduled to close at 5 p.m. PT on Tuesday, November 29. The NAAB aspires to be the leader in establishing educational quality assurance standards to enhance the value, relevance, and effectiveness of the architectural profession. The NAAB develops and maintains a system of accreditation in professional architecture education that is responsive to the needs of society and allows institutions with varying resources and circumstances to evolve according to their individual needs. The NAAB is the sole agency authorized to accredit professional degree programs in architecture in the United States. Since most US state registration boards require any applicant for licensure to have graduated from a NAAB-accredited program, obtaining such a degree is an essential aspect of preparing for the professional practice of architecture. While graduation from a NAAB-accredited program does not assure registration, the accrediting process is intended to verify that each accredited program substantially meets those standards that, as a whole, comprise an appropriate education for an architect.
