ENZYME REACTIONS EXPERIMENTS

EXPERIMENT 1: Effect of Temperature on Enzymes
Materials:
A piece of boiled liver
1 test tube
H2O2 (Hydrogen peroxide)
Pipette
Pens
Scalpel
Chronometer
Procedure:
1. Divide the liver into small pieces
2. Take those small pieces of liver into the test tube in which there is 5 drops

of H2O2.
3. Observe the reaction in the test tube and note that how long the reaction

took.

EXPERIMENT 2: The Effect of Amount of Enzyme on Reaction Rate
Materials:
Liver (3 pieces in same amount)
3 test tube
H2O2 (Hydrogen peroxide)
Scalpel
Mortar
Chronometer
Procedure:
1. Divide your liver pieces in different ways:

a) One big piece (DO NOT divide this first piece)

b) Into small pieces
c) Chopped in mortar
2. Firstly, take the first group of liver into a test tube and add 5 drops of

H2O2.
3. Observe the reaction and record the time fort he reaction occuring into the
teat tube.
4. Make line graphs for 3 reactions in 3 tubes.

EXPERIMENT 3: The Effect of Substrate Amount On the Reaction Rate
Materials:
Liver (2 equal pieces)
2 test tubes
H2O2
Scalpel
Chronometer
Procedure:
1. Add 2ml of H2O2 to the first; and 4 ml of H2O2 to the second test tube.

2. Chop one of the liver pieces and put it into the first test tube
3. Record the results and time for the reaction in the tube.
4. Chop the other piece of liver and add to the second tube which has 4 ml of
H2O2.
5. Record the results and time for the reaction in the tube.
6. Make line graphs fort he two tubes.
