New York City, NY- Urban mountain bike clinics in Highbridge Park The successful 2011 SRAM Gold Rusch Tour wrapped up with the fifth and final stop in New York City. Rebecca organized and hosted a series of private media rides with female editors and journalists from various endemic and non-endemic publications. Rebecca also hosted a full day of free womens clinics that were open to the public. She was joined by SRAM/Specialized pro downhiller, Katie Holden, and the SRAM 2x10 Ride Experience van. The focus of this trip was to get New Yorkers out on the dirt to experience mountain bike riding opportunities in NYC and to offer skills clinics and great gear to test.

ACTIVITIES: Two days of media rides and interviews with editors from Shape, Self, Prevention, MORE Magazine, Bicycling, Fitbie/MSN.com and American Athlete. These rides were primarily one on one mountain bike sessions at Highbridge Park in NYC. The editors rode Specialized Safires outfitted with SRAM 2x10 drivetrain. The clinics varied from pump track sessions to trail rides and were tailored to the individual skill level of the riders. Each of the editors had great rides and left the venue inspired by their new mountain bike skills. Rebecca and Katie hosted an Evening with the Pros at Sids Bike Shop. They fielded questions on training, racing, gear selection and motivation. They also raffled sponsor items to raise funds for NYCMTB, the local IMBA Chapter in New York. NYCMTB was founded as an IMBA chapter in 2005 and build and maintain mountain bike trails in all five boroughs of NYC. They are responsible for the trails at Highbridge Park. Free womens clinics and 2x10 Ride Expxerience at Highbridge Park all day Saturday. The SRAM Ride Experience van set up right near the pump track at Highbridge Park. Rebecca and Katie hosted free womens clinics all day long on the pump track and on the trails. Sessions were tailored to the riders and bikes were available for testing.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS: Educating New Yorkers about the mountain bike riding experiences available to them through NYC-MTB Witnessing the female editors drop into the pump track at Highbridge Park. This was a first for all of them. Watching the skill progression with all the women after spending a short time in the pump track, then taking those skills to the trail. Taking in the amazing social scene and positive vibe on Saturday with all types of people and bikes gathered at Highbridge to hang out and ride.
