Councilmember Glorias Statement on Courts Prop 8 Decision

SAN DIEGO, CA (February 7, 2012) San Diego City Councilmember Todd Gloria today issued the following statement on the Ninth Circuit Courts decision on same sex marriage. Earlier today, the Court upheld a lower courts decision that Californias voter-approved ban of same-sex marriage is unconstitutional. I am tremendously grateful for the Court's ruling today, said Councilmember Gloria. This is a great day for all people seeking full equality under the law that every American deserves. The battle is far from over, but I know this civil right will be realized and appreciate the Courts clear determination in this case. Councilmember Gloria will participate in the march through Hillcrest this evening in response to the ruling. The march is scheduled to begin at Sixth and University at 6:00 p.m. and head east. Community members are expected to march together to the Joyce Beers Community Center on Vermont Street, where the neighborhood planning group will consider a proposal to install a permanent Pride flag in Hillcrest. ###
