THE INNOVATION I MPERATIVE

67 December 2011
UniversityofOxford
Under intense pressure to deliver more with less, governments are pioneering new ways to serve their citizens in the 21st century.
Across the globe, governments of every kind are confronting demands to produce economic growth and provide efficient public services with limited resources. In the U.S. and much of Europe, leaders are struggling to cope with significant debt and deleveraging. In high growth and emerging economies, governments are seeking to broaden opportunities and welfare of their citizens. Governments are also grappling with how new technologies can transform societies as well as governments. In short, the innovation imperative is ferocious.

In an exciting collaboration, the Blavatnik School of Government and McKinsey & Company are holding a conference of high ranking government officials, academic, business and civil society leaders to share their experiences and begin to codify broader lessons on government in the 21st century. The conference will be held at Merton College on 6 and 7 December 2011. The conference will give its participants the opportunity to showcase management innovations, promote information sharing, and develop networks of like-minded innovators who can share successes and discuss challenges. This conversation will help steer the first steps of the Blavatnik School of Government research program, curriculum and focus. The most exciting ideas generated at the conference will also be profiled in a white paper which will be produced and widely disseminated by BSG.
