Press Release

For Immediate Release February 7, 2012 Contact: Dan Hartman Veterans Memorial Hall ** Gold Star Flags to be presented to 8 northland families** Duluth Veterans Memorial Hall, a program of the St. Louis County Historical Society, has partnered with Honor and Remember Minnesota to help present 8 Gold Star Flags to the northland families that lost loved ones in the Global War on Terror. The presentation will be on February 12th at 1pm at the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center (the Depot). The Gold Star Flag was created by a father of a fallen service member in Iraq. After visiting other families in the same situation as his family he realized that families didnt have a universal symbol to unite them and to also show that their sacrifice wont be forgotten. It was then that idea came forward for a universal new flag. The flag has currently been adopted by 9 states and currently in process in the state of Minnesota. The discussion will last approximately 30 to 45 minutes and will be followed by a Q & A session with the audience. Veterans Memorial Hall was established in 1910 and is a program of the St. Louis County Historical Society. It is the mission of Veterans Memorial Hall to preserve and collect veterans stories and artifacts and to educate the general public about the history of veterans from northeastern Minnesota. Its website, www.vets-hall.org, features more than 6,000 veteran stories. Help us celebrate our 100year anniversary by attending this free event!
