102 3 February 2012 On Dumpster Diving Paragraph Essay Precision Diving Lars Eighners On Dumpster Diving describes his dealings with the underground world of dumpster diving. Eighner makes it known to his readers that diving into dumpsters is not about taking everything of value in the dumpster. Dumpster divers have to be organized and smart about the items that you grab from the dumpsters. Eighner is very specific in telling us how to survive out of dumpsters. He blatantly says, I find my desire to grab for the gaudy bauble has been largely sated. This tells us that he is a person that grabbed everything when he first started diving, but he did change his ways to become a more skillful diver. Eighner also talks about leaving other items for the other people that may be scavenging the dumpsters. To show that dumpster divers do have some respect for each other, he says, But it is common practice to set aside surplus items: pairs of shoes, clothing, canned goods, and such. Eighner makes it known to his readers, that when you dive, you do it with a purpose, and that you learn what is good from bad (261, 265). Word count: 197
