Rene Magritte's mother s suicide in 1912 was also a inspiration on his paintings.
Magritte started out as a Futurism and Cubism artist. He made two attempts to change his art style and eventually became a Surrealist in 1925 after he saw Giorgio de Chirico s work.

Characteristics: Men in Bowler Hats Both words and Paintings Marvelously Strange and unthinkable reality Uses a lot of calm colors. Scenes with mirrors or nude women.
I chose Rene Magritte as my artist because I love the way all of his paintings are strange. Their mysterious and secretive meaning behind each piece gives you a chance to come up with your own imaginative story.
