FORT VANCOUVER REGIONAL LIBRARY

VANCOUVER, WA

Engaging a new generation of explorers

Fort Vancouver Regional Library District, headquartered in Southwest Washington, was established in 1950 as the first inter-county rural library district in the state. The city is currently developing a new 80,000 square foot main library. AldrichPears worked closely with the architects, Miller|Hull Partnership, to create interpretive experiences that complement the Librarys mandate to attract new audiences. To engage new and existing patrons, we developed the Knowledge Wall, an interactive, wall-mounted media installation that links pragmatic wayfinding information with the Librarys collection using a wide assortment of search terms. An outdoor mediamesh wall and unique visitor-oriented service carts were also developed for this client. The new library opened in July 2011.
