Abu Dhabis Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) is creating an immersive heritage village in the Liwa oases of Abu Dhabi Emirate. TDICs goal for the Qaryat Al Sarab Heritage Village is to provide guests at the neighboring resort with the opportunity to experience traditional Emirati way of life as part of their visit. AldrichPears Associates (APA) is developing a full design that will unify several major areas of the proposed Heritage Village: an Interpretive Centre, a re-created Historic Oasis and four Iconic Species Areas that will feature live animals. APAs concept focuses on the journey motif, showing links between the seasonal movements and practices of traditional nomadic Bedu, and the cultural heritage and identity of Emiratis today. Visitors will move from richly interpreted spaces to an immersive oasis environment to animal holding, care and demonstration areas. In the process, they will experience the richness of the Emiratis traditional way of life and explore the strong connections between past and present.
