Situated in Flint, a city at a unique turning point in its storied history, the Flint Childrens Museum (FCM) is in an exciting position to be an active player in the redevelopment of this city. Flint was the birthplace of GM. It was a hub of innovation and progress for many years before the decline of the auto industry saw its population drop drastically, while disenfranchisement continues to rise. The FCM currently serves a large audience, offering a range of programs and services, but they are always looking for ways to serve their community more effectively. With the City of Flint entering a period of renewal, there are opportunities arising for the Museum to work with other community groups to develop a broader, more holistic approach to meeting the needs of the community. AldrichPears Associates is working with the Museum to help them determine who they would like to be when they grow up and the physical and operational implications of this vision. A clear, articulated understanding of role they play, and could play in the community will be vital in the decisionmaking process for considering opportunities and moving ahead towards realizing their goals.
