The New Westmount Recreation Centre (WRC) Construction of the WRC will begin this spring. The pool will re-open in the summer of 2013 and the arena in the autumn of the same year. The facility will consist of the following: Two skating rinks below ground with spectator facilities. One rink will be open year-round; the other will be used for summer activities. One of the rinks will be standard size at 200 ft long while the other will be 185 ft. Outdoor 25 m swimming pool with 8 lanes and starter blocks, diving area, toddler pool, changing rooms for men, women and families, and outdoor shaded and sun terraces. 3 outdoor tennis courts. A large increase in green space: about 1 acre. Two exercise rooms for activities such as fitness, karate, yoga, ballet with access to showers and change rooms A teen centre. An entrance pavilion with a caf and terrace above ground. An agora lit from above, with an adjacent multipurpose room. An elevator offering universal accessibility to all levels Offices for the Sports & Recreation Department A pro shop. 10 dressing rooms. Common areas and washrooms. 67 parking spots, increased from current 38. More than 100 viewing seats per rink plus standing room. Floor area including circulation: 83,000 sq. ft.
