Statement on the Senate Mining Bill

Posted on February 13, 2012 by samweis

Clean Wisconsin
Your environmental voice since 1970. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 13, 2012 Clean Wisconsin Statement on Draft Senate Mining Bill MADISON Clean Wisconsin government relations director, Amber Meyer Smith, released the following statement after the State Senate released its draft of the open-pit mining bill today: We have repeatedly said that the Assembly open-pit mining bill must be scrapped as it puts the prots of out-of-state mining companies ahead of the health of Wisconsin residents and the quality of our environment. Unfortunately, the environmental rollbacks contained in the Senate bill are practically identical to those in the Assembly bill.

We urge the Senate to stand with the majority of Wisconsin residents who oppose weakening environmental protections for mining by starting over. ###
