Teachers Manual You can use this activity for your speaking class, especially when you discuss about preference.
1. Tell your students that theyre about to find out which students share same interest with them. 2. Give each student a copy of the handouts. (Either the right one or the left one) 3. Ask the students to write down a list of things that they like and things they dislike.
4.
After completing the previous step, they have to choose several students in the class to be interviewed and write the names under the Friends Names column.
5. They have to check whether they share similarities on their preferences. a. E.g.: When they already write I like reggae, then they have to ask to their friends, Do you like reggae? then the friend should answer honestly based on their preference although its not written on their list. b. If the answer is Yes then the friend will get 1 point, and if its a No, then he will get no point.
c.
That goes the same with Dislike things, e.g.: when they write I hate horror movies, then they have to ask to their friends Do you like horror movies? or What do you think about horror movies (any expression is possible), if it turned out that the friend also hate horror movies, the friend will get 1 point and if the friend likes horror movies, the friend will get no point.
6.
Eventually the students can see which other students have more things in common with them from the points theyve earned.
